Higher quality Japanese food in a very cozy and cute restaurant. Price is a bit higher than other restaurants in the area (bento at night $17-19) but the food definitely tastes better !Also they have 2 sushi chefs so sushi gets served fairly quickly. They have minimum expenditure per person, I think it's $12/person at night and $20/person if at the sushi bar.
My go to place for sushi. The service is great and the people are really nice. You should definitely try the jalapeno poppers. Their sushi rolls are great.
Very fresh fish, well done rice, nice people. Affordable prices, too. Omakase set was interesting and had some pieces you don't always see. Small space, and busy, but worth it.
Amazing sushi and sashimi in a little restaurant.
It's the best Japanese restaurant that I've tried in the Bay Area. It's as good as the restaurants in Tokyo.
We come here almost weekly. I've never had a bad dish. Occasionally there is a bit of a wait, but they have a nice outdoor patio to relax in!
The new ownership has surpassed the previous owners which were good to start with. Tempura was perfectly prepared and highest quality. The sushi rice is as it should be in texture and with modest amount. Sushi was excellent, not too big which is a plus IMO, proper temperature - almost room temp. Every dish skillfully prepared and delicious. A very nice place and my new favorite.
Arrive early or be prepared to wait to be served delicious Japanese food by a friendly staff. Groups of more than 2 will wait even longer as tables will have to be combined to accommodate.
The food is delicious, delicate, and prepared with love.
We ordered "Omakase" (The Chef's choice nigiri set) & other sushi to go yesterday for my husband's quarantine birthday at home. He enjoyed the "Omakase" so much. "Omakase" includes many rare and high quality fish that are not available at a regular sushi restaurant. The sushi chef's interpretation and modern touch add amazing flavor and detention to the traditional nigiri. I highly recommend Higuma's "Omakase" for those who are bored with a regular traditional sushi. Anago was outstanding too!!Last but not least, this place is owned by an authentic Japanese sushi chef. Non-sushi items in the menu are also very delicious! Try their chicken karaage. Yummy.
The takeouts were as good as dining in (though we missed the old days sitting inside the cottage). Love the handwritten note attached to every takeout!
Small but comfortable sushi house. Recently changed ownership, but the sushi seems to be in good hands with the new owners. Reservations are recommended simply b/c so little seating. We always enjoy our visits.
This place is a hidden gem in RWC! My partner and I had a Higuma donburi, a dinner bento box and a mixed tenpura. This meal was the best bang for the buck in the Bay Area as compared to all the other Japanese restaurants! Will definitely visit again :) Thank you so much for the delicious food and a great service!
I love this place. It's been awhile since I been here. I'm definitely be eating here soon
Delicious fresh Japanese cuisine served in sweet cozy home. Super friendly and helpful staff.
Very unassuming place and I wouldn't had noticed if you weren't looking for it. Apparently, it's very popular and got busy within 30 min of opening. The nigiri is fresh and tasty but seems like half the average portion. The yakitori is moist but only thigh meat and the sauce is way too sweet. They should switch to just shiyo (sea salt). Service was friendly from one of the two servers.
Great neighborhood Japanese restaurant with Japanese chefs and waitresses. Food here has been excellent. The restaurant has been open more than 30 years although bit recently has changed the owner but there are still Japanese chefs and waitresses.
Great fresh sushi. Tasty whether you go for the classic simple stuff or a "fancy" roll. Only downside is the place is a bit crowded.
The food here is great. They have a variety of Japanese food. The servers are always attentive. The only thing it's a small place.
My husband and I were really looking forward to eating at Higuma. We made a reservation for 7:30 pm on Friday, also Valentine's Day 2020. When we arrived at 7:30, they showed us a piece of paper with 7:00 written down by our name & phone number, and told us they had given the table away. They had not called at 7pm, which is poor customer service, and would have allowed them the opportunity to correct their mistake. We checked the e-mail, and it was confirmed for 7:30, so this was 100% their fault. This made for a very disappointing Valentine's night, and we will not support their poor attention to detail and terrible customer service.
Excellent great service delicious sushi
Fantastic and flavorful food, I love the ambience the place has, and the workers were super friendly. Will definitely visit here next time.
The best sushi place in the Bay Area, hands down! Super authentic. I’ve been going here since I was a little kid and there has been a change in ownership, but they kept the integrity and still serve my favorite things. They remember me every time I go in and know what I am going to order. Always awesome to have a place where you are a regular.
I meet with friends this nice place quite a bit! This is the best place to have a bite. I visit this place frequently. The meals are great, the workers are friendly and the cost is decent. I enjoy meeting in this restaurant for a rich meal.
Fantastic food and nice vibe! The owner and staff are so friendly that I simply enjoy just hanging out here and have a small drink. Sashimi is fresh and got some very interesting choice of fish; ramen is authentic and tasty; rice bowls are very satisfying. If you want sth value, go for the dinner box - you can try a bit of everything within 20 bucks.
This is a very small and cozy restaurant with limited parking but very helpful staff. One of them helped me with parking and another helped me choose the most delicious ramen dish I have had 'til date. Truly the best. And the sushi was very fresh.
So impressed by its authentic, high-quality food! Reminds me of the good experiences in Japan. The lovely cottage is a plus. A must go!
Fantastic and authentic Japanese food! The servers were friendly and the food came out very quickly.
Last night: super fresh hotate and shiro maguro and a glass of Asahi from the tap. Sighs of satisfaction.
The meals and service were above my expectations. I really liked the vibes of this place. Awesome place to take the family out for dinner.
Got there for a late dinner, about 8pm. I ordered a bunch of sushi for with some friends. The salmon aburi was good. Sushi was ok. Rice seemed a little dried out, not sure if it is because it was closing time. But otherwise good service.
The parking and seating are somewhat limited. The service is usually slow, but we keep coming back. The sushi is great. The miso is delicious. The vegetable tempura is the best I have ever had (consistently). The accessibility elements have impacted the seating availability and the parking, but the food is still good and reasonably priced.
One of the better restaurants in the area. It's a bit small, but has a friendly atmosphere. The food is not bad, and the pricing is reasonable.
The lunch box I had here with the chicken teriyaki is probably the best I've ever had!
I went here last weekend and sat at their outdoor seating. Very cute front patio and was able to park right in front of the restaurant. Their sushi was inexpensive and able to get a few different types of cheaper rolls as well as a specialty roll. Spent about $15 per person and was full by the end. They also gave some fruity treats with the check.
This place is good I recommend it
Very friendly staff; Japanese Sushi Chef makes awesome cuts of sashimi. The Saba and Toro was divine! You have to try their Gindara(grilled black cod); it is amazing!Don’t forget to ask for their daily specials. Today it was blue fin and assorted mackerel.
Great sushi and a nice cozy atmosphere! Will definitely be going back
This is a small Japanese restaurant with a wide variety of options. The sushi rolls were delicious and reasonably priced. The service was prompt and attentive. They didn't rush us out even though we were there a little past closing.
Delicious. Great service
This spot is worth a try. They serve large portions for reasonable rates. Constantly well organized and with fantastic vibes. I highly recommend this place.
Delicious, high quality sushi and other Japanese food. They're doing a great job with takeout during shelter-in-place, offering hand sanitizer, wearing masks, etc.
Favorite sushi
very clean and cozy. consistently great food, in reasonable portions and proportions.they know how to handle their miso!
Amazing place. Simple and delicious. None of the pretentiousness of other places. Tom (chef and owner) is very friendly and has an incredible set of knives to enjoy. Try to sit at the bar and enjoy the show :-)
Awesome food. Extremely nice people
Sushi was fresh, the rolls were great, and loved the atmosphere. Staff was friendly. Definitely get some salmon nigiri/sushi--it is out of this world. The sushi chef took great care in making the rolls and they all looked and tasted wonderful. Will definitely be going back again.
Very romantic place and a true gem. Awesome sushi and service!
I am so happy to find this lovely restaurant. My spicy tuna hand roll and the pasted plum and cucumber hand roll are delicious. The fish is so very fresh. I love the dressing on the salad also. I will be back again! This place is so cute and clean inside and everyone working here is calm and happy. The light piano music softly plays in the background. Very affordable and competitive prices.🙂
Higuma is my new favorite Japanese restaurant. Their sushi is some of the freshest, and everything was so well done.
